Protime Machine Instructions

The Home Protime machine checks the coagulation time of blood. Pro-time checks are common among patients that regularly take warfarin, or other blood thinners due to heart disease, irregular heartbeat or other cardiovascular issues. The machine is similar in appearance to a blood glucose monitor. It is designed to be simple enough for home use and prevents patients from making the monthly trip to a clinic or doctor's office to check for coagulation timing.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash hands with soap and water.

    • 2

Insert the fresh lancet into the lancing device. Twist the safety cap off the point and discard. Close the lancing device cover and lay on the clean work surface.

    • 3

Lay the pro-time meter on a clean level surface.

    • 4

Insert a test strip into the meter so that the label is face up. The unit displays a code number. Check that the code display matches the code on the test strip container. Press the "M" button to confirm.

    • 5

Let your hand dangle downward, then massage the finger you have chosen to lance.

    • 6

Pierce finger with the lancing device. Apply the drop of blood to the side of the test strip. The strip draws the blood into the machine. It is important to apply the drop of blood to the strip within 15 seconds of lancing. Hold the drop of blood to the test strip until the machine beeps. This ensures that the machine has enough blood to perform a competent check.

    • 7

      Wipe your finger.

    • 8

Watch the meter's screen. The letters "QC" appear to show that the device is performing a quality control check. After the quality scan, a check mark appears to indicate that the scan is starting. An hourglass appears during the test. The results appear on the screen of the device in seconds. The device's memory also saves the results.

    • 9

Turn the machine off at the on/off switch.
