1
Evaluate the requirements for Virginia egg donors. As of 2010, donors must be a woman between the ages of 21 and 32, free of any disease, have two ovaries and not be a drug user or smoker.
-
2
Submit a donor application to a Virginia-based fertility clinic of your choice. Applications are long, requiring your personal information, information on your background and your reasons for becoming an egg donor. Applications are available on the websites of each fertility clinic.
-
3
Schedule an appointment to visit the fertility clinic for a consultation with the egg donor coordinator once your application is reviewed and approved. This meeting is to talk you through the entire donation process and answer any questions you have about the process. A secondary appointment is scheduled to meet with the on site physician.

4
Get a physical. During this appointment you'll undergo a physical exam, an ultrasound and have cervical cultures and blood taken to test for disease. Then, you'll probably need a follow-up exam.
-
5
Meet with a psychiatrist to discuss the process, the anonymity and your personal reasons for wanting to donate.
-
6
Call the fertility clinic on the first day of your next period to schedule an appointment for hormone testing, which will be done on the second, third or fourth day of your period.
From this point, you'll wait until a recipient family chooses you based on your paperwork, which provides a physical description. You will be contacted if you are chosen.
-
7
Schedule a follow-up appointment once you've been notified that you were chosen by a donor family. At this appointment, you will be given medications to synchronize your menstrual cycle with the recipient's. This could take up to three months.
-
8
Attend all of your appointments, which your doctor will provide a schedule for. Typically you must visit the clinic every four days for hormone shots, fertility shots and other medications. You will also receive ultrasounds at your appointments to check the progress of your eggs. Your egg retrieval is then scheduled when your medications and shots have all been administered.
-
9
Ask a friend or family member to take you to your retrieval appointment. You will be given anesthetic and you will not be able to drive after your appointment. This is an invasive procedure. You will be required to rest in bed for several days after your retrieval.

10
Receive your compensation. Typically, donors are paid between $3,000 and $6,000 per donation as of 2010.
