How to Predict Your Ovulation Days

When trying to get pregnant, being able to predict your ovulation days can be vital to successful conception. Ovulation is the window of time that your body is at its most fertile. By monitoring your body and knowing what signs to look for, you can figure out when you are ovulating.

Mark the first day of your menstrual cycle -- that is, the day you begin to menstruate -- on a calendar over a period of six months.

    • 2

Count the days from the start of one cycle to the start of the next. This will tell you how long your menstrual cycle is. From month to month, you will see a regular pattern that might vary by one or two days. A normal menstrual cycle is 28 days; however, cycles ranging anywhere from 20 to 35 days are not uncommon.

    • 3

Subtract 14 days from the start of your next period. This marks the start of the week in which you are at your most fertile. To conceive, it is best to have sexual intercourse every other day during this period -- skipping one day allows your partner's body to produce sufficiently lively sperm.

    • 4

Track your temperature at the start of your menstrual cycle as soon as you wake up every morning. This can be used as an additional or alternative way of predicting ovulation, as ovulation can be marked by a sudden spike in your temperature.

    • 5

Monitor changes in cervical mucus. During ovulation, your body produces more estrogen, which results in an increase in the amount of cervical mucus present. Cervical mucus during ovulation will be clear and stretchy, similar to egg whites.
