How do I Have Twins Via a Surrogate?
Expanding your family through surrogacy offers people, without the ability to have children, to enjoy the fulfillment of parenthood. Although the process is scientifically proven for success, controlling the outcome is not always possible, including an aim to have twins.-
Identification
-
Surrogacy is the process through which a woman carries another couple's embryo to full term. Finding the right surrogate and getting approved to enter into such a contract entails a long process with many steps to ensure safety for all parties.
In-vitro Fertilization
-
In-vitro fertilization is the process by which an embryo is transferred to a surrogate. Sperm is introduced to an egg in a lab setting, then stored until the surgery to implant the embryo in the surrogate's uterus.
Risks
-
Because multiple pregnancy poses a great risk to surrogates and the babies, many clinics restrict the number of eggs transferred to the embryo to two. It is only possible to have twins if both eggs implant, which is extremely rare, or if one egg splits into two separate embryonic cells to create maternal twins. Both of these are rare with the delicate process of in-vitro fertilization, but not unheard of.
