How Many Days Before Ovulation Is the Best Time to Conceive?

It can be tricky deciding when is the best time to conceive is. Typically, the only time you can conceive is when you're ovulating. But, how do you know when that is? And when is the best time to try for a baby?
  1. The Calendar Is Your Friend

    • If you're trying to get pregnant you'll want to keep track of your period using a calendar. If you have a 28-day cycle, ovulation usually begins 14 days after the last day your period began. So, if you got your period on March 1, you would begin ovulating on March 14.

    Signs and Symptoms

    • There are signs and symptoms that will you notice when you're ovulating and when you are most fertile. Right before ovulation, you may notice a clear discharge. This is a time when you may be very fertile and can get pregnant. After ovulation, when you are not fertile, you'll notice a a cloudy discharge or none at all. You may also experience some mild cramping during ovulation.

    Body Temperature

    • Your basal body temperature tells you a lot about your chances of getting pregnant. You can purchase a thermometer that is designed to detect your basal body temperature. Take your temperature every morning and chart your readings down. You are most fertile the two to three days before your temperature reaches its highest.

    Frequent Sex

    • The best way to get pregnant is to have sex frequently during the 14 days that you are ovulating. Daily intercourse increases your chances of getting pregnant.
