Lower Abdominal Stretch Marks in the First Trimester of Pregnancy
Stretch marks can form anytime in pregnancy, even as early as the first trimester. The most common places for those unwanted lines to occur are the lower abdomen, breasts and thighs.-
Causes of Stretch Marks
-
As your belly grows, the middle layer of your skin, known as the dermis, stretches. This layer contains collagen, which supports the elasticity of your skin. When your dermis stretches too quickly, your skin tears resulting in stretch marks.
Weight Gain
-
Stretch marks are generally hereditary, although rapid weight gain early in pregnancy can increase your chances of developing them.
Genetics
-
According to WebMD, genetic factors play a role in whether or not you get stretch marks during pregnancy. If your mom and her mom had stretch marks, you will have them as well.
Prevention/Solution
-
Take action early in pregnancy to reduce and prevent stretch marks. Moisturize three or four times a day with a lotion that contains cocoa or Shea butter to keep your skin hydrated.
