Is it possible to get pregnant once your tubes have been removed?

In general, it is not possible to get pregnant once your fallopian tubes have been removed. The fallopian tubes serve as the pathway for the egg to travel from the ovaries to the uterus. Without the fallopian tubes, the egg cannot reach the uterus and fertilization cannot occur.

However, there are a few rare exceptions where pregnancy has occurred after tubal ligation or removal. In some cases, the ends of the fallopian tubes may reconnect or form a new pathway, allowing the egg to reach the uterus. This is known as a fimbrial recanalization.

Another rare possibility is an abdominal pregnancy, where the fertilized egg implants and grows outside of the uterus, such as in the fallopian tube itself or in the abdominal cavity. Abdominal pregnancies can be life-threatening and require prompt medical attention.

If you are considering having your fallopian tubes removed or have already undergone this procedure and have concerns about pregnancy, it is important to discuss these with your healthcare provider.
