I have had an early scan but shows nothing however my pregnancy tests are positive?

There are a few possible reasons why you may have had a negative early scan but positive pregnancy tests:

- The pregnancy is too early to be detected on an ultrasound. Early pregnancy scans are typically performed between 6 and 8 weeks of gestation. If you had your scan before 6 weeks, it is possible that the embryo was simply too small to be seen.

- The ultrasound was not performed correctly. If the ultrasound probe was not placed correctly, or if the technician was not experienced in performing early pregnancy scans, it is possible that the embryo was not visualized.

- You may have a molar pregnancy. A molar pregnancy is a rare condition in which a fertilized egg does not develop properly. Instead, a cluster of fluid-filled cysts forms in the uterus. Molar pregnancies can produce positive pregnancy tests, but they will not show a developing embryo on an ultrasound.

- You may have an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies can be dangerous and can cause internal bleeding. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, you may have positive pregnancy tests, but you will not see a developing embryo on an ultrasound in your uterus.

If you have had an early scan that showed nothing but your pregnancy tests are positive, it is important to see your doctor for further evaluation. Your doctor may recommend repeating the ultrasound in a few weeks or they may order additional tests to determine the cause of your positive pregnancy tests.
