I am almost six weeks pregnant and my heart is beating so much faster it feels like anxiety which gives me shortness of breath. Has anyone else has had this will effect the pregnancy?
Palpitations, or a feeling of your heart racing, pounding or skipping beats, are a common symptom in early pregnancy. They usually start around the sixth week of pregnancy, peak at around the eighth to tenth week, and then gradually start to settle by the end of the second trimester.
Causes
The most likely cause of palpitations in early pregnancy is changes in hormone levels, particularly progesterone. Progesterone causes your blood vessels to relax and widen, which can lead to a slight drop in blood pressure, resulting in your heart having to pump faster to maintain circulation.
Other factors that can contribute to palpitations in pregnancy include:
* Increased anxiety or stress levels
* Anemia
* Thyroid problems
* Blood sugar fluctuations
Effects on pregnancy
In most cases, palpitations during pregnancy are not a cause for concern and do not affect the pregnancy or the baby's development. However, if they are severe, persistent or accompanied by other symptoms, such as chest pain, fainting, or shortness of breath, it is important to see a healthcare professional.
How to manage palpitations
Here are some tips to help manage palpitations in pregnancy:

*Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol
* Drink plenty of fluids
* Eat regular, small meals
* Get regular exercise
