If you are using an ovulation calendar and trying to conceive, it is best to take a home pregnancy test on the first day of your expected period or a few days after. This is because the levels of the pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), start to rise after implantation of the fertilized egg into the uterus, which usually occurs around 6-12 days after ovulation. By the time of your expected period, the levels of hCG should be high enough to be detected by a home pregnancy test.
