When is a pregnant woman safe from miscarriage?

A pregnant woman is never completely safe from a miscarriage, as there are always risks associated with pregnancy. However, the risk of miscarriage decreases as the pregnancy progresses. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) states that the risk of miscarriage is highest in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, and then decreases after that. ACOG also states that the risk of miscarriage is lower for women who have had a previous successful pregnancy.
