Does a baby have heartbeat as soon its conceived?

A baby does not have a heartbeat as soon as it is conceived. The earliest recognizable heartbeat begins around the 24th to 28th day after fertilization. At this stage, the embryo is known as a conceptus and is about the size of a poppy seed. The earliest stage at which a heartbeat can be detected is about 18 days after fertilization, but it is not a regular heartbeat at that point. It may be an intermittent fluttering of the cells that will eventually develop into the heart. At this early stage, the embryo consists of two layers of cells and the heartbeat is just an electrical impulse that travels through the cells.
