What are symptoms of twin pregnancy?

Symptoms of a twin pregnancy can be very similar to those of a singleton pregnancy, but some women do experience more intense or additional symptoms. Some of the more common symptoms of a twin pregnancy may include:

Early signs:

- Rapid weight gain

- Severe nausea and vomiting (morning sickness)

- Excessive fatigue

- Feeling of fullness or pressure in the abdomen

- Frequent urination

- Darkening of the areolas (the area around the nipples)

- Breast tenderness

As the pregnancy progresses:

- Fundal height (the measurement from the top of the uterus to the pubic bone) is larger than expected for the gestational age

- Uterus feels firmer than expected for the gestational age

- Increased risk of certain pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and placental abruption

- Backache

- Pelvic pain

- Shortness of breath

- Leg swelling

- Hemorrhoids

- Varicose veins

- Constipation

- Heartburn

- Insomnia

It's important to note that not all women who are pregnant with twins will experience all of these symptoms, and some women may experience different symptoms altogether. If you are concerned about the possibility of a twin pregnancy, it's important to talk to your doctor or midwife. They will be able to provide you with a more accurate diagnosis and answer any questions you may have.
