If your breastfeeding but had a period can you get pregnant?
While it is possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding and still have a period, it is not as common as getting pregnant while not breastfeeding. Some women may experience what is known as lactational amenorrhea method (LAM), which is a natural form of birth control that relies on exclusive breastfeeding to suppress ovulation. However, LAM is only effective if certain criteria are met, including breastfeeding frequently both day and night, and not having a period since giving birth. If a woman has had a period, even if they are still breastfeeding, LAM is not considered effective and other forms of contraception should be used to prevent pregnancy. It is important to remember that breastfeeding does not always prevent ovulation and pregnancy, and using a reliable method of contraception is recommended if you do not wish to get pregnant.
