Ways to Tell Your Husband He Is Going to Be a Dad
-
Keep It in the Family
-
Big brother listens to baby. If this pregnancy is not the first, include other children in delivering the message to your husband. Buy a cute little T-shirt that states "Big Sister" or "Big Brother." When your husband walks through the door, send his little one to greet him. Give him a few seconds to catch on and actually read the shirt. If he needs a nudge, give the child directions on how to draw attention to the message on her clothing. Most children cannot keep a secret, so your husband will know in minutes.
Say It With Food
-
Tell him you have a "bun in the oven." If the key to your man's heart is through food, take advantage of this opportunity. Prepare a meal that is full of "baby" themed foods. For instance, steam up some baby carrots with baby corn and grill a few baby back ribs. Serve the meal, and then ask him what he thinks the theme of dinner may be. A few husbands may get it right away, but others may need more hints. If so, excuse yourself and state, "I have a bun in the oven." That should give him enough hints to guess that a baby is on the way!
Document His Expression
-
Get it on film for a memory that will never fade. Set up a video camera or simply hold one as you record your husband. Start a pleasant conversation, and then hold up a sign that says "I am going to be a Dad." Tell him to read your sign out loud. Not only will you get a genuine expression, but you, your husband and child will be able to relive the moment for years to come. Your husband will thank you for allowing him to preserve his reaction to some of the best news of a lifetime!
Enlist the Family Pet
-
Let your furry "child" send him the message. Before a child comes into the family, a dog may be the unofficial first child. So put your pet to good use. If your dog is good with commands, teach Fido to paw at your stomach when you ask, "Where is the baby?" Another fun idea is to get a few baby items, such as a blanket, bottle or rattle. When you and your husband are in different rooms, send an item with your dog to drop off, one by one. This is a fun way to include your pet and create a story to tell your grandchildren!
