Creative Ways to Announce It's a Girl

Learning a baby's gender has become a fun milestone for parents-to-be, as well as for family and friends. Rather than making your announcement through phone calls or emails, consider being a bit more creative when you let everyone know that you're having a baby girl.

  1. Cake Color

    • Ask your closest friends and family members over for dinner to find out the gender of your baby. Bake a white cake and tint it pink using red food coloring. Frost the cake white so that none of the pink shows. When you cut into the cake, it will reveal to your friends that your baby is a girl. You could also have your doctor write the gender on a slip of paper without telling you. Take the paper to a baker and ask her to make a pink cake for a girl or a blue cake for a boy. That way, you will also be surprised when you cut the cake!

    Embellish Your Belly

    • A funny way to tell someone whether you're having a boy or a girl is to paint your belly. Use a water-based, chemical-free paint that's meant to be used on skin, such as face paint. Paint your entire belly pink or decorate it with a "girlie" design, such as pink polka dots, pink flowers or a large pink bow. Let the paint dry then put on a pair of pants and a shirt. When you're ready to tell someone, simply lift your shirt to reveal the design.

    Fortune Cookies

    • Order personalized fortune cookies to use to make your announcement. You can order custom fortune cookies online. Simply order the cookies and have the fortune read "It's a girl!" Have family members and friends over for Chinese food and give each one a cookie for dessert. Make sure that everyone opens them at the same time so that everyone gets the news at the same time.

    Favors

    • Throw a dinner party or a get-together with some of your friends and family members to tell them the gender of your baby. Next to each place setting, place a box that's wrapped in gender-neutral paper. When dinner is over, have everyone open their boxes at the same time. Have something girlie inside, such as pink hair bows.
