Cystitis Treatment For Men

Cystitis occurs in men when an infection in the urethra makes its way into the prostate and then the bladder. Men who have cystitis will experience painful urination and an urge to urinate frequently. There are treatment options available for men who suffer from cystitis.
  1. Types

    • For men who have mild cystitis, antibiotics are all that is needed. Surgery is recommended for men who have severe reoccurring cystitis.

    Time Frame

    • Antibiotics used to treat cystitis are taken several times a day for at least 3 days.

    Effects

    • Antibiotics rid the body of the bacteria that is causing the infection. Surgical procedures will stimulate the bladder and alleviate symptoms of cystitis.

    Considerations

    • For cystitis that starts in the prostate, antibiotics will need to be taken for weeks at a time in order to effectively kill the bacteria.

    Warning

    • If a doctor prescribes an antibiotic to treat cystitis, it is important to take the medication for the length of time that is recommended by the doctor even if symptoms are no longer present. Failure to do so may result in the infection reoccurring.
