How to Get Rid of Shadowed Eyes in Men

Dark spots around the eyes are more commonly talked about with women, but are just as much of a concern for men. These circles are caused by a variety of factors, including aging, tiredness, nasal congestion, allergies and genetics. Whatever their cause, these shadow marks can make your face look tired and aged; however, there are a few different treatment options available.

Drink more water. When your body is well hydrated, your blood circulates better. Combined with the well-hydrated skin that comes with drinking enough water this can help relieve the dark circles under your eyes. Aim for at least 64 oz. of water each day. Keeping a bottle of water with you all day can help you meet your water goals if you normally have a hard time drinking enough water. It is important to drink mostly plain water, rather than sugar-laden sodas and juices.

Get more sleep. A lack of sleep can affect your blood circulation, leading to paler skin. The paler your skin becomes, the more noticeable the veins around your eyes become, causing a shadowed appearance. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the amount of uninterrupted sleep you need varies between individuals, but you should aim for at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night.

Treat potential underlying causes. A dark shadow around the eyes can often be the side effect of another ailment such as allergies. Visit your doctor to see if there may be some other issue that may be affecting the blood vessels or skin around the eyes. By treating the underlying issue, you help solve the overall eye problem.

Stop rubbing your eyes. The capillaries around your eyes are very fragile. Rubbing your eyes can break these capillaries, leading to blood leaking into the tissue around your eyes. This gives the eye a shadowed look.

Visit your local cosmetics department. There are many eye creams available on the market to help reduce the look of circles under the eyes. Some are even formulated specifically for men. Look for creams that have both vitamin K and Retinol. These two ingredients can help reduce inflammation and help reduce the skin discoloration around the eyes.

Change your habits. According to the Mayo Clinic, both smoking and drinking can contribute to the formation of dark circles under the eyes in both men and women. Quitting, or drastically reducing how often you participate in these habits, can help treat and prevent circles from occurring.
