How to Get Hair Follicles to Grow Hair
Hair growth occurs in follicles just below the surface of the skin. Hair grows in cycles: A growth phase is followed by a dormancy phase wherein hairs fall out to make way for new growth. In baldness, this cycle is interrupted or delayed, but certain products and techniques have been shown to stimulate follicle growth.Things You'll Need
- Minoxidil product
- Rosemary
- Sage
Instructions

Natural Method
-
1
Boil rosemary and sage together in a pot.
-
2
Steep the herbs in the water for a few hours, then strain out the plant matter.
-
3
Use the solution regularly as a rinse after shampooing. The rinse is believed to stimulate growth at the follicle and shorten periods of follicle dormancy. According to the book "Hair Growth and Disorders" by Ulrike Blume-Peytavi, thyme is often added to this mixture.
Pharmaceutical Method
-
4
Procure a product containing the chemical compound minoxidil, which researchers have found to stimulate hair growth.
-
5
Mix a 2-percent to 5-percent solution of minoxidil. You may want to mix a 2-percent solution at first, as the side-effects -- mainly various forms of skin irritation -- vary from person to person.
-
6
Apply the solution to a dry scalp at least twice a day for four months. The solution should be left untouched on the scalp so that it can properly penetrate to the follicles. Once you notice hair growth, continue using minoxidil if you wish to maintain the growth.
