Instructions for a Talking Pedometer
In an era when walks or jogs are scheduled during lunch breaks or while the kids are at the movies, a talking pedometer can be a convenient tool to measure fitness goals. The device allows users to audibly hear the number of steps taken, distance achieved or calories burned without interrupting a workout. Most talking pedometers are smaller than a cellular phone and play music, announce the time or let the user choose specific sound notifications.Things You'll Need

1
Determine your step length. Obtain the most accurate calculation by measuring the distance of 10 steps, then divide by 10 to obtain the average length. Step length can also be measured toe (left foot) to toe (right foot) or heel (left foot) to heel (right foot).
-
2
Enter your step length and other vital information into the device. Press and hold down the "mode" button until you receive verbal instructions on how to proceed. After you successfully enter your step length, the device will request other information, such as weight and height.
-
3
Fasten the pedometer snugly on your waist. Avoid incorrect readings by ensuring the device is in a vertical position.
-
4
Program the pedometer to announce the amount of calories burned or distance reached by pressing the "talk" button. To hear other readings, including distance reached, select the "mode" button.
-
5
Check to see if your device offers an "automatic announcements" feature. The feature allows you to program the pedometer to automatically announce your progress in specific areas, such as every mile walked.
-
6
Begin a new workout by resetting your steps and distance. Most pedometers offer a "clear" button to erase old data.
