A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in young children and adolescents. These health care professionals may diagnose and treat medical conditions ranging from the common cold to infections. Subspecialties may include radiologists, ophthalmologists and geneticists.

    • Pediatric opthalmologists receive general training through residencies and fellowships. Parents can seek pediatric opthamologists with core training in pediatric vision care for diagnosis and treatment.

    Pediatric Geneticists

    • Pediatric geneticists are trained medical doctors who can identify and suggest treatments for child-related genetic disorders. Some of these genetic disorders may include sickle-cell anemia and cystic fibrosis.

    Pediatric Critical Care Specialists

    • Pediatric critical care specialists care for young patients in unstable medical conditions ranging from deep diabetic ketoacidosis to severe pneumonia. These medical doctors complete three or more years of fellowship training.
