1
Ensure that you've used battery connecting cables with a single fuse setup, such as the battery connecting cable supplied by Invacare. Invacare strongly recommends use of its battery connection cables as battery connecting cables are not interchangeable. Using incorrect cables may damage the battery.

Test the output of a battery. Use a digital voltmeter to check the battery charge level at the charger connector. The charger connector is located on the base of the wheelchair frame. Place the voltmeter leads into the charger plug on the wheelchair. Expect a meter reading result of 25.5 to 26 volts DC; a lower result indicates a worn or faulty battery. Users must replace faulty batteries.

Test the motor of an inoperable power chair. On the four-pin motor connector, locate the two contacts in the red and black housings. Set the digital multimeter to measure ohms. A normal reading is between 1 and 5 ohms. A reading of zero ohms or in excess of 15 ohms indicates a problem, states Invacare. Contact the company to schedule service for a replacement motor, and determine if your wheelchair motor is covered by a warranty.
