Electric Carts for Seniors
Seniors sometimes find themselves incapable of moving about with some sort of aid as their health deteriorates. Thanks to the development of personal electric scooters, senior citizens can now remain as mobile as ever. There are many different types and brands of electric scooters, each with their comparative advantages and disadvantages.-
3-Wheel Mobility Scooters
-
Mobility scooters with three wheels have several advantages and several disadvantages. Three-wheeled scooters are usually (though not always) considerably cheaper than their 4-wheeled counterparts. They also tend to have a smaller turn radius, affording the user greater maneuverability. This makes a 3-wheeled scooter more suitable for indoors environments.
Examples of three wheeled scooters include the Pride Victory, the Pride Sundancer, the Elite Traveller and the Drive Phoenix.
4-Wheel Mobility Scooters
-
Mobility scooters with four wheels are more suited for outdoors and long-distance uses. Four-wheeled scooters tend to have a larger turn radius than 3-wheeled scooters, but are able to go faster. Some of these scooters can reach speeds of nearly 20 mph. Having four wheels makes the scooter more stable as well, and it is therefore able to take turns at higher speeds.
Some models of 4-wheeled scooters are the Pride Hurricane, the Drive Odyssey, the Invacare Leo and the Pride Legend.
Heavy-Duty Mobility Scooters
-
The final category of mobility scooter is the heavy-duty variety. These scooters are typically designed to carry passengers over 350 pounds in weight, and contain features such as reinforced suspension, larger seats, more powerful engines and batteries capable of greater output. These scooters usually have four wheels, although several models of 3-wheeled heavy duty scooters do exist. Typically scooters such as these are not for the elderly, but rather for the obese.
A few examples of heavy duty scooters include the EV Rider Vita, the Merits Pioneer, the Pride Pursuit and the Pride Maxima.
