Katy, Texas, is located about 25 miles west of Houston but offers a small town feel. Katy has a population of about 14,000 residents, but the greater Katy area has a population of about 220,000. Of that greater area, about 23,000 people are aged 55 and older.-

Katy has more than 220 clubs and organizations, six golf courses, five museums, four public libraries and 45 public parks, according to the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce. Known as the "City of Churches," Katy is home to more than 80 places of worship. Katy also has a pleasant climate for those 55 and older--summer highs in the low 90s and winter highs in the mid 60s.

The city's Senior Citizens program offers many services and activities for seniors, including games, arts and crafts exercise, line dancing, health fairs, day trips, holiday parties and trips to movies or dining out. In July 2010, the construction of the Westside Senior Education Center in Harris County was nearing completion and will offer classes in computers, money management and astronomy for seniors. The center will be located less than 15 minutes from downtown Katy.

Because of Katy's proximity to Houston, residents have access to a number of quality health-care facilities. However, there are two systems located within greater Katy--CHRISTUS St. Catherine Hospital and Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, which also has an off-campus rehabilitation facility.
