How do I Make a Walking Cane Foam Handle Grip?
Using a walking cane is a daily necessity for many people. Injuries, surgery and age can all lead to the need for a walking cane. Walking canes are commonly made from a variety of materials including wood, metal and cane. A grip can greatly increase the comfort of using a cane, especially over an extended period of time. Foam is a good choice for a handle grip as it provides a soft cushion for the hand while at the same time allowing for a secure grip.Things You'll Need
- Walking cane
- Foam tubing
- Tape measure
- Marker or pen
- Scissors
- Soap
- Water
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the handle of the walking cane with a tape measure to determine how long the foam grip should be.
-
2
Transfer the measurement to a length of foam tubing. Mark the desired length on the tubing with a pen or marker.
-
3
Cut the foam directly across the tube at the marked location with sharp scissors.
-
4
Apply a soap and water solution to the handle of the cane along the location where the foam tubing will be installed. Use enough soap so that the foam grip will slide easily into place and not become stuck during the installation.
-
5
Set the walking cane, with the foam grip installed, aside and allow the soapy water solution to completely dry. Do not use the cane until the soap and water dries to avoid having the grip slip and potentially lead to injury during use.
