Products Made With Nicotine

Nicotine is an alkaloid that occurs naturally in tobacco. It is found in a variety of products, most of which include tobacco and tobacco-replacement products.
  1. Cigars and Cigarettes

    • Products containing tobacco, such as cigarettes and cigars, contain nicotine. Pipe tobacco and cigarettes labeled "low tar" generally contain as much nicotine as other products.

    Smokeless Tobacco

    • Snuff, chew and other forms of smokeless tobacco contain nicotine, making them as potentially addictive as cigarettes.

    Nicotine Replacement Products

    • Products intended to help people quit smoking--such as gums and patches--often contain nicotine. According to webmd.com, these products contain between ½ and 1/3 the amount of the nicotine found in most cigarettes.

    Pesticides

    • Certain pesticides may be made from nicotine; however, those used in the U.S. no longer contain the substance due to its toxic environmental effects, according to foodnutritionscience.com.

    Warning

    • To avoid nicotine poisoning, keep tobacco products out of the reach of children. Always use gloves when handling pesticides that contains nicotine, and seek emergency medical attention if poisoning occurs.
