How to Tell If You Need AA
-
1
Consider whether you have already made failed attempts to stop drinking. If you have tried to quit drinking before but have been unsuccessful, you may have a problem and could benefit from AA.
-
2
Determine whether or not you feel that you need an alcoholic beverage, whether it is to have fun, satisfy a craving or to stop shaking.
-
3
Evaluate whether your drinking habits have caused legal, social or family problems.
-
4
Determine whether you have missed work or school due to drinking habits.
-
5
Consider whether you have periods of time while drinking that you cannot remember.
-
6
Call a hotline equipped with counselors who specialize in alcohol abuse issues. One option is the National Drug and Alcohol Information Treatment and Referral hotline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357). A counselor can act as a neutral third-party and give a professional opinion of your situation.
