The Best Way to Grow Taller

People everywhere are subject to their genes when it comes to height. There is even speculation that taller people may be more successful, have better relationships and enjoy the luxuries of life more easily than a person of shorter stature. To the shorter person's advantage, there are simple ways to maximize your growth potential and possibly add an inch or two. With certain specific everyday choices, you could be feeling and looking taller than you might believe.

      Sleep at least seven to eight hours per night, preferably in a dark and quiet room. According to Steven Parker MD of Webmd.com, "most physical growth (in children) occurs during sleep." This may also be true for adults, but the research is minimal in comparison to studies of children.

      Eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Calcium builds strong and healthy bones that with time may lead to growth. Webmd.com suggests, to maintain strong bones, to "eat a nutritious diet with enough... vitamin D, which helps your body absorb calcium. Calcium is found in dairy products, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt and dark green, leafy vegetables, such as broccoli and other foods."

      Exercise regularly to not only optimize growth, but to keep your body strong and your muscles working efficiently. Richard Weil MEd, CDE stated during The New You: Exercise 101 seminar in 2005, "Walking is going to cause more stress on the bones and that will cause more growth of the bones. Other aerobic exercises for good overall health include running, bicycling and swimming.
