Back to School? Head Lice Season

As kids head back to school, they're also heading back to head lice season. Here are some tips for keeping your child's head lice-free.

- Talk to your child about head lice. Tell them what they are, how they're spread, and how to avoid getting them. It's also a good idea to share photos of head lice and nits so your child can identify them.

- Check your child's head regularly. Use a fine-tooth comb to inspect their hair and scalp for lice and nits. Check behind the ears, around the neck, and in the crown of the head.

- If you see nits or lice, treat your child's head with a lice shampoo or lotion. Follow the directions on the package carefully.

- To prevent the lice from spreading to other family members, wash all bedding, clothes, and towels in hot water. Vacuum carpets and furniture.

- If your child has head lice, keep them out of school or daycare until they're treated and lice-free.
