How many stages are in puberty?
Puberty is divided into five stages:
Stage 1: Pre-puberty
- Before the onset of puberty
- No notable changes in the body or hormones
Stage 2: Early Puberty
- Hormones start to increase
- Breast buds start to develop in girls
- Testicles and scrotum start to grow in boys
- Pubic hair starts to grow in both boys and girls
Stage 3: Mid-Puberty
- Pubic hair growth becomes thicker
- The menstrual cycle begins in girls (menarche)
- Voice deepens in boys
- Penis and testes grow larger
Stage 4: Late Puberty
- All secondary sexual characteristics are present and developed
- Acne may appear
- Growth spurt might happen
- Menstrual cycle becomes regular
Stage 5: Post-Puberty
- Puberty ends
- Adult size and sexual maturity is reached
