Blackheads
-
1
Keep your skin clean. Use a medicated cleanser to prevent bacteria.
-
2
Exfoliate your skin to remove oil from the pores. Use a cleanser that tightens your pores to prevent blackheads from forming.
-
3
Use an oil-free moisturizer, if necessary. Those moisturizers that are non-comedogenic (cosmetics that don't block pores) work best at preventing blackheads.
-
4
Eat a healthy diet, heavy with fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid sugar and processed foods. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Get plenty of rest and exercise.
-
5
Use only oil-free makeup. Remove all traces of makeup from your skin before going to bed.
-
6
Keep your hair pulled up or away from your face. The oil in your hair will transfer to your face. The same goes for your hands. Avoid touching your face with your hands to avoid transferring oils.
-
7
Regularly wash bedding and towels that come into contact with your face.
Whiteheads
-
8
Keep your skin clean. Use a quality cleanser formulated to treat and prevent whiteheads. Wash your face at least twice a day. A facial scrub is best for cleaning out the pores. Use a light, oil-free moisturizer after cleansing.
-
9
Exfoliate your skin at least twice a week after cleansing. Exfoliation will help clear clogged pores. Rinse with cold water after exfoliating to close the pores.
-
10
Steam your face at least once a week to deep-clean the pores. Clogged pores are the main cause of whiteheads.
-
11
Keep your pillowcases and bedding clean. It's also just as important to keep your hair clean. Oil from the hair will transfer to the pillowcase and then on to your face.
-
12
Stay hydrated to help your body flush away toxins that can cause bacteria and whiteheads. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in fat. Avoid greasy and fried food.
