Who started alcoholics anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) was founded by Bill W., Dr. Bob S., and a small group of other recovering alcoholics in Akron, Ohio, in 1935. Bill W. was a New York stockbroker who had lost everything to his drinking, including his job, his family, and his friends. Dr. Bob S. was an Akron physician who had also lost everything to his drinking. The two men met in 1935 and found that they had a common goal: to help other alcoholics recover from their disease. They started holding regular meetings in Akron, and the AA movement was born.
