How many kids commit suicide each year because of bullying?
As per a 2020 study published by JAMA Pediatrics, the rate of suicide among high school students who had been bullied was almost twice as high as the rate among those who had not been bullied. The study analyzed data from the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, which included responses from over 15,000 high school students.
However, it's important to note that this study is correlational, meaning it cannot establish a causal link between bullying and suicide. In order to establish causality, long-term studies that track individuals over time would be needed. Additionally, it is important to consider the contribution of other factors, such as mental health conditions and stressful life events, which can also contribute to suicide risk.
