Odyssey House

• Odyssey House is a nonprofit treatment center located in Houston, Texas. It is able to serve 29 boys or girls aged 13 to 17, and treatment plans can last anywhere from four to nine months, depending on the level of care needed. This organization was founded by community members who had lost children to alcohol, drugs and abuse and felt that there was a need in the community for these services. The facility is housed in a 16,500-square-foot building on five acres and includes a ropes course. Clients are also able to take advantage of on-site education programs at an accredited school to avoid lapses in education.

Memorial Hermann Prevention & Recovery Center

• Memorial Hermann is located in Houston, Texas and is a 12-step abstinence-based program that focuses on teaching the teen addict how to live life without alcohol or drugs. The center provides medical detoxification, residential and outpatient programs as well as after-care and extended care/sober living programs. This facility also incorporates creative programs such as music, art, drama and equine therapies to create a more well-rounded experience. Teens also receive six hours of academic education at a charter school accredited by the Texas Education Agency. MHPARC also encourages spiritual development and physical exercise as a means to support recovery.

Laurel Ridge Treatment Center

• Located in Austin, Texas, this facility serves girls and boys aged 13 to 17 in either residential or outpatient programs. Services include medical detoxification and an acute program that provides short-term crisis stabilization for teens who are at risk of harming themselves or others. Laurel Ridge also offers a program for teen sex offenders. The programs are family-centered with a holistic approach to treat the teen's entire well-being. Residential programs are gender-specific and the on-site charter school is run by the University of Texas and provides regular and special education as well as vocational training.
