How to Keep Glasses on a 2-Year-Old

Some toddlers, for one reason or another, need to wear prescription glasses. Unfortunately, keeping glasses on a toddler can be a difficult task. Toddlers surrounded by peers who don't wear glasses usually don't understand why they need to. Two-year-olds often end up taking off their glasses multiple times a day, especially if the glasses do not feel comfortable. Many toddlers even start to cry when their parents make them wear their prescription glasses.

Instructions

    • 1

Explain to your child why she must wear her prescription glasses. Some children are able to understand why they need to use glasses, especially if they see the effects firsthand. Many toddlers come to love their glasses because they are able to perceive the drastic improvements in vision when they wear them.

Give your 2-year-old rewards whenever he wears his glasses for a designated amount of time. Try rewarding your child with toys and stickers. Don't use candy, soda or other sugary foods to bribe him, as this could lead to cavities.

    • 3

Allow your 2-year old to put cute stickers on the frames of her glasses. Let her pick out the frames herself, even if it means spending more money. It's better to buy expensive glasses that she'll actually use than cheaper glasses she takes off every few minutes.

    • 4

Buy glasses that fit your child exactly. You may be tempted to buy glasses your 2-year-old will "grow into" to save money, but these glasses will likely be uncomfortable for your child while he's still young.

    • 5

Serve as an example for your 2-year-old. Buy glasses without lenses and wear them all day. When your child sees that you don't mind wearing glasses, she will be encouraged to keep her own on. If your daughter often imitates your actions, you should get good results from this method.
