Signs a Beautiful Woman Has Low Self-Esteem

Believe it or not, even beautiful women can suffer from low self-esteem. A beautiful woman may be perceived as being confident and secure in her body due to the way she looks and carries herself. But a pleasant appearance doesn't necessarily mean she loves, accepts and values herself as a human being. What goes on inside a person is not always congruous with what is displayed on the outside.
  1. Body Image

    • A beautiful woman with low self-esteem may be overly concerned about her appearance. Constantly checking her image in a mirror and overgrooming are just some of the signs she may display. Her makeup has to be perfect; her skin must be flawless and her hair has to be perfectly styled at all times. If she doesn't look a certain way, her already low self-confidence and low self-esteem suffers. Women with low self-esteem may develop eating disorders to help them achieve the body image they perceive as perfect.

    Criticism

    • Criticism from others, whether constructive or not, is not accepted by beautiful women with low self-esteem. They feel criticism confirms their unworthiness. Defensive behavior may emerge and acceptance of mistakes is not an option. Self-criticism is common in those with low self-esteem. Constantly putting herself down and saying things like "I'm a failure" or "I can't do anything right" is characteristic. They often criticize themselves, but have a hard time being criticized by others.

    Perfectionism

    • Fear of failure may trigger perfectionism in women with low self-esteem. In the workplace, they have to excel; in school, they have to get perfect grades. Anything less is unacceptable. The inability to keep up the perfect behavior can spiral out of control and bring on the feelings of failure she so desperately tries to avoid. There is no healthy, in-between balance for beautiful women with low self-esteem. Either she's the best or she's a failure.

    Communication

    • Low self-esteem in a beautiful woman may result in trouble communicating. She may feel like her opinion doesn't matter or that she's not worthy to communicate with others. Discussing issues is not an option. Fear of being wrong and disliked may be overwhelming. Women with low self-esteem may simply decide not to listen to what is being said so they don't have to partake in the conversations.
