How to Use Sanitary Towels

Whether you're 17 or 27, it's that dreaded time of the month. Maybe you've never used a sanitary towel before, also referred to as a sanitary napkin or sanitary pad, and you're just too embarrassed to ask how to properly use one. Using a sanitary towel in the proper way is a cinch -- the challenge is finding the one that's right for you.

Instructions

Obtain a package of sanitary towels. If you have never used a sanitary towel before, when you go to the store, take your time looking at the various brands and styles. Knowing your body during that time of the month is key to getting the right sanitary towel for you. Having an idea of your level of flow each month will help you pick a sanitary towel because most brands provide varying absorption levels. You might think that the higher the absorption level, the bulkier the towel. Not so, however.

Unwrap the sanitary towel from the plastic casing. Applying the towel to your undergarments is typically easier while wearing your undergarments. While either sitting on the commode or standing, lower your undergarments and unfold the towel so that it's flat. If you purchased sanitary towels with wings, unfold the wings, but do not remove the protective paper that exposes the adhesive. Running down the back of the sanitary towel is a protective piece of paper -- peel it off. With the adhesive side down, place the towel on the inside of your undergarments, just north of centered. Then, remove the protective paper from the wings and fold them under to affix them to either side of your undergarments.

Pull up your undergarments and outer garments. Ensure that you're comfortable and that none of the adhesive from the sanitary towel is in contact with your skin. If you find that it is, then you've done something wrong and need to repeat the process.
