Nutrition to Strengthen the Female Reproductive System

Several factors can contribute to unhealthy reproductive conditions for women. Caffeine intake, harmful habits and lack of nutrients all contribute to possible ovulation and conception problems for childbearing women. These factors of an unhealthy reproductive system can be easily remedied with wholesome foods, regular exercise and certain vitamins and nutrients.
  1. Foods to Eat

    • Foods can drastically improve your reproductive health. Eat foods rich in zinc, such as oysters, peanuts and lean roast beef. Chocolate lovers will also enjoy the fact that chocolate is filled with zinc as well. Unfortunately, chocolate also has high levels of caffeine, so you'll need to eat it sparingly. Supplement your diet with at least 15 mg of zinc each day to improve fertility. Lean meats, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy can also contribute to a healthy reproductive system.

    Vitamins and Other Supplements

    • Folic acid is strongly recommended for women of childbearing age; try to get 0.4 mg daily. Leafy greens like spinach, nuts, citrus fruits and beans all have high amounts of folic acid, but you can also take supplements if you don't like these foods. Pre-natal vitamins like NatalSure are not only great for reproductive health, but also your hair and nails. Take a multi-vitamin every day. Also add at least 1000 mg of calcium to your diet.

    The Physical Aspect

    • Get into a habit of regular exercise. Try cardiovascular exercises like walking, swimming and bicycling to improve lung capacity and lose weight. Weightlifting can improve muscle strength. Any exercise will improve your health overall, so it's a good idea to get into the habit. Yoga is great to learn breathing, posture and relaxation techniques that reduce stress. Sleep at least eight hours a night to help your body relax and reduce stress. Reduce stress also by taking warm baths and listening to music.

    What to Avoid

    • Assess any addictive habits you may currently have, like drinking, smoking, using recreational drugs or prescription drugs. Quit harmful habits that could prohibit a healthy, functioning reproductive system. Wean yourself slowly off of cigarettes or alcohol, or get your doctor's help to calm your cravings. Avoid high levels of caffeine, which has been proven to slow conception. Research any teratogenic chemicals, like pesticides, that you may be exposed to and avoid them as much as possible.
