Functions of Natural Estrogen

Estrogen is a hormone that is naturally produced in a healthy and functioning body. Although it is produced by both male and female bodies, it is far more prominent and produced in greater amounts in women's bodies. Estrogen supports many different bodily functions in women and is essential to reproductive health.
  1. Female Reproductive System

    • Estrogen is produced in large amounts in the female body by the ovaries and adrenal glands, as well as fatty tissue. There are three hormones that generally fall under the category of "estrogen:" estrone, estrodial and estriol. Estrone and estrodial are produced in the ovaries and directly influence reproductive organs in premenopausal women. Estriol is produced by the placenta when a woman is pregnant. Estrogen is responsible for changes in the lining of the uterus during the menstrual cycle as well as changes in breast tissue and breast development.

    Vital Organ Health

    • In addition to regulating and assisting in the development of the female reproductive system, estrogen has a significant impact on other major bodily functions. Estrogen circulates through the blood system and travels to estrogen receptors. Healthy brain, liver and heart function are all impacted by estrogen.

    Bone Density

    • Estrogen production in the body actually promotes bone health. Estrogen, in conjunction with calcium, works within the body to support bone growth and health. There is a direct link to estrogen and bone mass loss, most of which occurs post-menopause when the body is no longer producing the same amount of estrogen.
