The Average Level of Female Hormones

Female hormone levels naturally fluctuate during a woman's menstrual cycle. It is actually these hormones that "regulate" the cycle, allowing it to function properly. At certain points during the cycle, hormones should average around certain levels.
  1. Estradiol

    • Estradiol is the predominant female sex hormone, more commonly called estrogen. In day three of the menstrual cycle, estradiol levels should be between 25 and 75 picograms per milliliter, according to FertilityPlus.org.

    Estradiol Abnormalities

    • Abnormally high estradiol levels on day three of the menstrual cycle may suggest the existence of an ovarian cyst.

    Testosterone

    • While testosterone is predominantly associated with males, it is created in females as well. On day three of the menstrual cycle, testosterone levels should be between 6 and 86 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dl).

    Elevated Testosterone

    • While testosterone levels on day three may reach 86 ng/dl and still be considered normal, anything above 50 is deemed elevated. Elevated testosterone levels in women can lead to male-pattern hair growth.

    Other Hormones

    • On day three, progesterone levels should be below 15 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml), luteinizing hormone should be below 7 multi-international units per milliliter, and prolactin should be below 24 ng/ml.
