Signs & Symptoms of Candida Vulvitis
The type of fungus that usually causes a vaginal yeast infection is Candida albicans. The infection leads to inflammation, a condition called vaginitis. Sometimes vulva inflammation (vulvitis) occurs along with vaginitis, affecting the external genitalia. The condition can occur when yeast levels increase, which may be due to taking certain medications or using certain hygienic products.-
Itching
-
The primary sign of vulvitis due to a Candida infection is an itchy sensation in the vaginal or vulvar area. It can affect both the inner and outer labia.
Pain
-
Pain is also associated with vulvitis caused by Candida. The vulvar area may feel inflamed, burning or generally sore. The woman may experience mild swelling of the vulva. Pain during urination or sexual intercourse also may occur.
Patches
-
A woman with chronic vulvitis may develop scaly, thickened or white patches on the vulva. Rarely, the folds of skin of the labia can become stuck together.
