Increased Estrogen Symptoms

Estrogen is a term for hormones that are produced by the ovaries or the placenta in a woman. In some cases, estrogen can become excessive and lead to side effects that can be bothersome but also very serious. Increased estrogen, or estrogen dominance, can occur due to birth control pills, menopause and even the foods consumed.
  1. Headaches

    • When there is too much estrogen present in the body, it can cause headaches. Headaches can be mild to severe and progress into migraines over time.

    Weight Gain

    • Weight gain is another common symptom of excessive amounts of estrogen, such as with birth control pills. Weight gain can be due to fluid retention or due to changes in appetite caused by elevated levels of estrogen.

    Mood Swings

    • Women with excessive levels of estrogen can have mild to severe mood swings. This may be noted as PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome), irritability, nervousness, depression or anxiety.

    Fatigue

    • Fatigue is also another common symptom of estrogen overload. Fatigue can be mild to severe and become extremely disruptive for busy individuals.

    Additional Symptoms

    • Additional symptoms of increased estrogen include loss of sex drive (libido), food cravings, tender breasts, irregular menstrual cycles, insomnia, dry eyes and hair loss.
