How to Stop Nystatin's Side Effects
Nystatin is an anti-fungal medication commonly given to women to treat the symptoms of a yeast infection. It comes in pill form and in ointments and is available only with a prescription. Yeast infections, also known as candidiasis, occur in warm and moist areas of the body, such as the mouth and vagina. Yeast infections have many causes, including pregnancy, stress, certain medications (such as antibiotics) and certain conditions (such as diabetes). Using products such as douches and perfumed vaginal spray can also increase the risk of yeast infections.Things You'll Need

1
Stop using nystatin ointment to stop the more serious side effects associated with it, including skin irritation, rash, hives, itching and swelling. If any of these symptoms occur after applying nystatin to the affected area, contact your physician immediately and do not use any more of the ointment.

2
Take nystatin with food to combat the side effects that are more common with oral tablets, including nausea, upset stomach, gas and diarrhea. Medications can often irritate the lining of the stomach, and food or milk can act as a type of "buffer" to prevent this from happening. Eating certain types of food that have been shown to help reduce nausea is another way to protect yourself from upset stomach and nausea. These foods include dry saltine crackers, sweet tea, peppermint and ginger cookies.

Administer an over-the-counter medication to treat the side effect of diarrhea. Consult with your physician or pharmacist first to ensure that there are no drug contraindications with nystatin and diarrhea medications. Home remedies, such as ginger tea and blackberry tea, have also been known to stop the cramps associated with diarrhea. Also make sure to drink plenty of fluids so that the body does not become dehydrated
