What Can Increase FSH?
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) is one of the hormones responsible for encouraging ovulation. Disruptions in its production can affect this process and cause infertility. You can do several things to increase production of this hormone.-
Goal of Increasing FSH
-
Increasing production of this hormone will trigger normal ovulation patterns and increase your chances of getting pregnant.
Fertility Drugs
-
Certain fertility drugs can stimulate production of FSH and include clomiphene citrate, gonadotropins, metformin and aromatase inhibitors. You might take a combination of one or more of these drugs.
Warning about Fertility Drugs
-
Fertility drugs increase your chances of multiple births. According to the Mayo Clinic, oral drugs increase the risk by 5 to 8 percent, while injections carry a 20-percent chance. Adjusting the amount or timing of medications can reduce your chances of multiples.
Lifestyle Recommendations
-
Certain unhealthy habits can affect the production of fertility-related hormones. Maintain a healthy weight and do not smoke. Do not engage in intense exercise for more than seven hours weekly; this can decrease ovulation.
Stress Reduction
-
Emotional stress can interfere with FSH production. Experiment with relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing or anything that makes you feel calmer.
