Significance

Normal Levels

• The American Diabetes Association created guidelines to identify normal blood sugar levels. Before a meal, your blood sugar should range from 70 to 130 mg/dL. After a meal, your blood sugar should be below 180 mg/dL.

When to Be Tested

• Pregnant moms commonly undergo routine blood sugar tests between week 24 and week 28 of pregnancy, as this coincides with the time frame that the condition usually emerges.

Gestational Diabetes Testing

• Gestational diabetes screening tests, also called a "one hour glucose test" involve drinking glucola, a sweet liquid. One hour later, your blood will be analyzed. Levels below 140 mg/dL are considered normal. If your level is higher, you may need further tests.

Symptoms

• Symptoms of gestational diabetes include fatigue, increased thirst, increased frequency of urination, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, blurry vision and frequent infections.
