How to Use a Lice Nit Comb on My Hair Extensions

Getting rid of lice nits, or lice eggs, on synthetic hair is similar to removing the nits on natural hair. However, since synthetic hair is often at least part plastic, it can be destroyed if boiled or sent through the washing machine. To remove the nits, which look like small, white or yellow dots, a lice nit comb is necessary. Although removing all the nits may take time, it's worth doing if you spent a lot on your hair extensions.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring four cups of water to a steady boil and remove it from the heat. Add two tablespoons of dish soap and stir well.

    • 2

Remove the extensions from your hair, if possible. If this is not possible, divide your hair into 1 inch sections with hair clips.

    • 3

Apply a lice treatment/nit removal aid to the hair and wait for three to 10 minutes as directed.

    • 4

Hold the lice nit comb (a fine-toothed, metal comb) at a 45 degree angle and run it through one section of hair. Holding it at an angle will make it easier to remove the nits.

    • 5

Dip the comb into the hot, soapy water to remove the nits from it.

    • 6

Repeat this process for every section of hair, especially if the nits are located within a centimeter of your scalp.

    • 7

Wash your synthetic hair (whether it's on your head or off) with a lice removal shampoo. There are many products available both online and in stores. Each have different directions based on their strength.
