Home Remedy for Exfoliating Feet
Feet take abuse on a daily basis. Often you shove your feet into uncomfortable shoes and walk for hours; at other times, you stand for a good part of the day. No wonder they get rough and tired so easily. Exfoliating is a process to remove dead skin, invigorate tired muscles and bring newer skin to the surface. Though most health spas offer exfoliation services, when using home remedies you pamper both your feet and your wallet.-
Sand Exfoliation
-
Sand is a natural exfoliate. You can use soaps that have sand in them, or you can make your own by mixing one-half cup of clean sand into a 12 ounce bottle of your favorite body wash or foot soap.
Sit on the edge of the bathtub and get your feet wet. Let them soak in the water for about ten minutes, and then pour the soap into your hand. Rub the soap and sand mixture onto your feet vigorously. Pay special attention to the heels and bottoms of your feet, and to the fronts of your toes. Use your hands or a washcloth to rub the sand into your feet. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then wash it off with warm water.
Follow this sandy exfoliation with a soak in a warm bath. Dry your feet off with a clean towel and apply lotion to your feet. Do this at least twice per week, and more often if you have calluses.
Tool Exfoliation
-
Buy yourself an exfoliating bar or brush at your local body supply store, bath supply store or discount store. Soak your feet in water, and then dip them in a soap and water mixture. For best results, include an exfoliating soap or some sand in your mixture.
Use the coarse brush or bar on your heels and toes, and on the base of your feet. Rub vigorously. The point is to scrape off dead skin cells while you do this. Scrub each area of your foot with the bar or brush for at least thirty seconds. Using soapy water, rinse your feet thoroughly after exfoliation.
Soak your feet for a few minutes in a warm bath, and then dry them off. Apply lotion to your feet after exfoliating. Do this several times per week, or more often if you have rough or scaly feet.
