What Can You Do to Get Your Estrogen Level Right?

One of the primary human hormones is estrogen. It is the major sex hormone for females, responsible for developing a woman's reproductive system. Sometimes, this hormone can get out of balance. Although a physician can prescribe medications to control estrogen levels, you can make simple changes to control your estrogen levels naturally.
  1. Organic Foods

    • Eating organic foods will lower your estrogen levels. The food in your supermarket that is not organic can contain pesticides and hormones. These pesticides and hormones may protect the food, but too much of these chemicals will wreak havoc on your hormone levels and cause your estrogen levels to skyrocket.

    Dairy

    • Another way to lower your estrogen levels is by restricting the number of dairy items you consume. Dairy is the source of almost 80 percent of the estrogen that we consume, so cut out the milk if you wish to lower your levels. If you can't cut dairy from your diet, try switching to lactose-free or rice milk to limit the amount of estrogen you consume.

    Exercise

    • A great way to lower your estrogen levels is getting adequate exercise. By heading out for a brisk walk or jog five days a week, you will cut your estrogen levels by as much as 7 percent. You can't lower your levels by doing low-impact activities--you need high-impact, aerobic activities that will get your heart pumping and those levels dropping.

    Food & Caffeine

    • Foods high in estrogen, such as beans and legumes and certain fruits like apples, cherries and dates, will help raise your estrogen levels. Consuming these foods three to five times a week will help your levels increase steadily. Limiting your caffeine intake will also boost estrogen in your body. Soy products contain estrogens that your body will absorb.

    Supplements

    • A number of herbs and vitamins can help raise your estrogen. Consuming herbs such as clover and garlic several times a week in combination with taking vitamin supplements such as black cohosh, licorice and chaste berry will help raise your estrogen and improve your health.

    Tips

    • Estrogen balancing should be part of an overall health strategy--focus on being healthy instead of worrying only about your estrogen levels. As with all medical conditions, do not begin a diet, exercise regimen or supplement schedule without first talking with your medical professional.
