Women Hair Growth

Hair growth in women depends on a healthy diet full of specific vitamins and minerals. There are factors that can lead to a decline in hair growth. Also, women can sometimes experience hair thinning or even balding.
  1. Function

    • About .35 mm of hair shaft is produced a day by a single hair follicle. Metabolic requirements of cells in follicles must be met to achieve optimal hair growth.

    Considerations

    • Toxins found in the environment, sun exposure, stress, cigarette smoke, excess alcohol consumption and not enough sleep might make it harder for the body to keep optimal health, which might affect the hair.

    Time Frame

    • Hair grows at about 1 inch a month. A growth phase of two to six years follows before hair hits a point of falling out. The follicle that lost the hair will start growing another hair strand.

    Identification

    • There are supplements that can be taken daily to help boost hair growth. These include vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, beta carotene, sulfur, zinc, magnesium and flax seed oil.

    Hair loss

    • Hair loss affects as many as two-thirds of women at some point. Although men typically deal with complete baldness, women tend to not see complete baldness but more of a thinning of the hair.
