Bladder or Yeast Infection Symptoms
Bladder infections and yeast infections are common female health problems. Although certain symptoms are similar, each condition also exhibits distinctive symptoms that you should be familiar with to help determine whether you have a bladder infection or a yeast infection.-
Causes
-
Bladder infection symptoms occur when bacteria in your body (usually from your rectum) enter your urinary tract and infect your bladder. Yeast infection symptoms typically occur when yeast that is naturally in your vagina multiplies excessively and causes a vaginal yeast infection.
Changes in Urinary Habits
-
Painful urination may accompany a bladder infection or a vaginal yeast infection. However, foul-smelling or discolored urine--as well as a frequent need to urinate--occur only with a bladder infection.
Vaginal Changes
-
According to MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia, vaginal changes, including unusual discharge, itching and burning, are an important indication of a yeast infection.
Fever
-
The National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse states that a fever accompanied by vomiting, nausea or unusual pain in the rib area indicates a bladder infection that has developed into a kidney infection, a potentially life-threatening condition that must receive immediate treatment.
Treatment
-
Your doctor will typically treat bladder infection symptoms with an antibacterial drug such as amoxicillin. In the case of a vaginal yeast infection, a prescription vaginal cream usually resolves symptoms.
